Philip Ingram MBE Bio

Slightly tongue in cheek in his Twitter profile, Philip refers to himself as an, “Ex spy, specialised in taking over countries, now writes and broadcasts about things intelligence, security, cyber, CBRNE (that is Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives), geopolitics, terror and more.

Philip Ingram MBE BSc MA GCLI is a widely published journalist, specialising in the security and intelligence arenas, who has built on a long and senior career in British Military Intelligence, with years of experience in all aspects of intelligence and security as well as strategic planning. He maintains a close interest in global events. For his sins, he is recognised as a chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear weapons expert having studied these subjects as part of his first degree and masters degree and spent many hours in what were lovingly referred to as “noddy suits” with respirator (not called a gas mask!) on. It probably helped that his late father ran a hospital laboratory where as a youth he spent many hours watching him work and flicking through his biological science publications.

Philip now runs his own media company, Grey Hare Media, that specialises in delivering informed content. Between the Army and this, he was a sales and marketing director for a large cast steel manufacturer, learning about business, setting the conditions for over £100m of business, and then managing director and editor in chief of a B2B Security focused print and online publication. He is an Associate with the London Grad School and keynote speaks on Terrorism, Cyber Security, Information and Disinformation, leadership and mental health.

Whilst serving with the British Army for over 26 years and leaving as a Colonel, he was fortunate to command some fascinating units including 1 Military Intelligence Battalion. At the time it had unique intelligence feeds for an Army unit and had a specialist counterintelligence capability capable of identifying and monitoring hostile intelligence agencies and other organisations as well as having an integrated strategic intelligence capability. It was during that time, as a military planner and intelligence officer, he was involved in operations across the globe and in particular was part of the team that brought peace to modern Bosnia and in the Southern Balkans, in Kosovo. Else where he has served operationally in Germany during the Cold War, Northern Ireland, Cyprus, Northern Macedonia, Croatia and Iraq. As well as being awarded the MBE in 1996 he has also been formally commended on operations.

Philip is frequently asked to comment for BBC TV News and Radio (2, 4, 5 and World Service), CNN, ABC, CBC, Euronews, Turkish TRT World TV, GB News, BFBS and has given content in the past to BBC Mundo, Japanese NTV and many many more. He has presented INTERPOL World TV in Singapore in 2015, 2017 and again in 2019. He has taken part in BBC Inside Out documentaries on online terrorist grooming, the expose of criminal activities on Craigslist, Terrorist grooming online and the murder of Jill Dando for ITV as well as several current affairs programmes on subjects such as the influence of drill music on street crime, the Novichok attack in Salisbury and other security and intelligence related subjects. Further documentaries have included Putins Nuclear Options for Channel 4, The History of Chernobyl for Channel 5 and 60 Minutes for Channel 9 Australia. He has provided expert commentary for The Daily Telegraph, The Times, the Daily Mail, the Sunday People and Sunday Mirror and many more, not just in the UK but across the globe, he is often sought out for expert opinion. You will not be surprised at him popping up on latest news commentary, on the radio or reading his comments in the papers. He was surprised when he popped up in a cameo role in episode 2 of the Salisbury Poisonings by the BBC.

Philip writes for many security related publications, including the International Security Journal and Security Journal UK and provides original bylined content and comment for the mainstream press. He is a conference chairman and keynote speaker on security, terrorism, cyber, intelligence, the power of information and mental health resilience. He also has great success at writing honours and awards and his current successful count includes OSPA nominations, IFSEC Global Influencers, OBEs (1), MBEs (5), George Medal (1) and numerous other commendations.

Philip hosts his own PODCAST channel ‘Chatting with Ingram’ and hosts ‘A View from the Bar,’ a PODCAST channel for the legal firm 36 Commercial, he also edits education and mentoring PODCASTs called ‘The Student Sessions.’ He has chaired or delivered keynote addresses at international conferences with the MET Police, Home Office, TINYg, ASIS CSOs, NHS Security professionals and many more. He is a recognised social media commentator and defence influencer by the MoD.

If that were not enough he retains other business interests, in particular in the blockchain area where he is a director with two consultancies and another two blockchain technical solution providers as well as having co-authored a chapter in the book, Blockchain Impact. That is not all he has authored and he has a chapter published in Losing Afghanistan , edited by Brian Bavanti and has his first co-authored novel, called The Committee, is being published in the Autumn with Keith Turnbull. In addition, he has dabbled in the armoured vehicle arena, specialist molecular detection, blockchain enabled business development and he is the Chairman of a specialist Cyber Intelligence company that tracks and monitors terrorist activity online and provides content support for a number of companies.

Philip gives a little back as a mentor with an Institute of Directors (IoD) organised scheme helping business students at a local university in their 3rd year and as a media advisor on the not-for-profit Terrorist Information New York Group (TINYg) board. He give back to defence people as a founding member of the Independent Defence Authority and he is a member of the IoD, RUSI and the National Union of Journalists.
