Gokul is currently working as a Landscape Architect for a London based private design firm, with three years of experience in the field. He brings a unique blend of international and multidisciplinary expertise, having previously worked as an Architect in a private firm in the metropolitan city of Chennai, India. That experience honed his skills in architectural design within a fast-paced urban context.

A lifelong passion for gardening has been at the heart of Gokul’s journey. From childhood, tending to plants and exploring green spaces became a defining part of his identity, nurturing a deep appreciation for nature’s role in enriching daily life. This personal connection to the natural world ultimately inspired a career transformation—from architect to landscape architect—driven by the desire to design spaces that harmoniously integrate built environments with thriving green landscapes.

With a strong passion for landscape design, Gokul focuses on creating spaces that connect people with nature while enhancing local biodiversity. He is skilled in diverse software and graphical representation tools, enabling the clear and compelling communication of design ideas. Building on his interest in nature and ecology, Gokul completed a master’s in landscape architecture, gaining advanced knowledge in urban ecology, landscaping, and planting design.

Hands-on experience with English plants—grown and tested in his own sustainable container garden—has deepened his understanding of optimal growing conditions, allowing for thoughtful and sustainable planting schemes. Driven by the opportunity to contribute to sustainable and inclusive environments, Gokul produces carefully considered design proposals, conceptual reports, package drawings, and visuals that support the landscape team in developing solutions sensitive to both local communities and the environment—while always prioritizing client needs.

Gokul’s dedication to gardening and plant education has been widely recognised through multiple media appearances. He has been featured in regional television interviews and newspaper articles celebrating his innovative use of an urban terrace to create a flourishing garden despite having no ground-level access. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Gokul won the Greenwich University’s Visual Garden Growing Competition. As an active social media creator, he runs a dedicated Instagram page to share planting tips and inspire others.

As a legal migrant and person of colour, Gokul embodies determination, resilience, and a strong work ethic, continually striving to achieve excellence despite challenges. Passionate about using gardening as a tool for community engagement, education, and environmental stewardship, he actively seeks platforms to share insights and expertise.

Beyond professional work, Gokul is an active volunteer in the Abbeydale Road area of Sheffield, contributing to the creation of green spaces through tree planting, hedgerow development, pocket park construction, and wildflower meadow planting. He is also a member of the Sheffield Cactus Society, Sheffield Orchid Society, and Abbeydale Street Trees, collaborating with local communities to enhance biodiversity and create lasting environmental benefits. In addition, Gokul provides garden design, maintenance, and plant care support to friends and family, applying practical knowledge and continually developing expertise in diverse garden styles and horticultural skills.
