Kelvin Fletcher

Kelvin Fletcher (born 17 January 1984) is an English actor and racing driver, best known for playing Andy Sugden in the ITV soap opera Emmerdale from 1996 until 2016. In 2019, Fletcher won the seventeenth series of Strictly Come Dancing with his professional partner Oti Mabuse.

The Oldham-born actor’s on-screen career began at the age of 12, when he was cast in Emmerdale as tearaway teen Andy Hopwood. Despite only being signed up for three episodes, he ended up starring in the soap for 20 years in over 1500 episodes, eventually taking on his fictional adoptive family surname Sugden.

Two decades of standout storylines earned him many nominations and wins at the British Soap Awards, including Best Actor, Best Dramatic Performance and Scene of the Year. In 2016 he departed Emmerdale to pursue new acting opportunities.

Off-screen, Kelvin is also a self-confessed petrol head, winning the 2012 Silverstone Classic Celebrity Challenge race and competing in the 2016 British Touring Car Championship.

Strictly winner Kelvin Fletcher has bought a 120-acre farm in the Peak District. With zero farming experience, he has a baptism of fire as he tries to find ways to make it pay.

Strictly winner, racing driver and soap star Kelvin Fletcher has spent most of his working life playing a farmer on Emmerdale – now he’s attempting to do it for real. Like tens of thousands of other Brits in the past year, he’s escaped his urban roots and moved his family to the country to start a new life. And he hasn’t done things by halves.

Kelvin and his wife, Liz, have bought a 120-acre farm on the edge of the Peak District National Park, which they plan to bring back to its former working glory – despite having zero farming experience. A month in and the jobs list is mounting, along with their stress levels. It’s a baptism of fire, but luckily for them, their no-nonsense next-door neighbour, Gilly is on hand to help.
